Training

We consider the preparation of adoptive parents a very important process. In many cases our adoptive parents tell us that this process has been important to them in raising their awareness about adoption, what they could offer a child and the needs of children who need adoptive parents. We run 3 preparation courses each year which fit with the assessment process. The courses run at different venues throughout the county. Once you have been visited by a family placement officer to discuss your initial enquiry, and we have agreed that you are ready to proceed you will be invited to attend a preparation course. The course covers everything that we think an adoptive parent might need to think about.
You will also be offered other courses that will link to the preparation course subjects such as the Safer caring course and a course on how to prepare indirect contact letters for birth family or life-story work.
The dates for the preparation courses will be posted on this page as soon as they are available each year. The extra courses run at different times and availability will vary.
For 2009 the dates are;
- 11th, 12th and 19th March – Venue: South Wiltshire
- 7th, 9th and 11th October – Venue: North and West Wiltshire
Courses for approved adopters
We consider access to ongoing training for adoptive parents a very important part of the support we offer post adoption. We offer a range of courses and discussion groups to approved adopters and seek their opinion on what courses would be of benefit to them.
Details of forthcoming courses will be posted on this page but if you want to find out more please email Marion.hunt@wiltshire.gov.uk or Sally.hughes@wiltshire.gov.uk for more information.
